Our own site

This site at day 38: 3 clicks, 1,685 impressions, and the five things we refused to do about it

A new site's first weeks produce numbers that invite action, and most of the action would be wrong. This site went live on 29 August 2026 with 24 pages. By 3 October it had 3 clicks, 1,685 impressions, an average position of 40, and a Search Console full of things that looked like opportunities. This page is the list of what we did not do, because the refusals are most of the work in a first month, and because a client who reads this will know what to expect from us in theirs.

The refusals

Five things the data invited, and why each one was wrong

  • Rewrite the Google Business Profile guide for its “striking distance” queries

Why not: Its 268 impressions came from searches for American electrical firms by name, “electricowork google business profile reviews”, landing at position 8 by accident. A page rewritten for those would rank for nothing a UK electrician searches. Noise, left alone.

  • Change the home page title because “electrician seo” sits at 76

Why not: Position 76 on 57 impressions at day 38 is a new domain being tried, not a title failing. A title change now would reset what little history the page has. It stays until there is a reason.

  • Build town pages for the areas-we-cover searches

Why not: The areas page had 80 impressions and no clicks. Twelve town pages on a 38-day-old domain is the pattern that got a Flintshire garage eleven pages dropped from the index. One areas page, written properly, until a town earns its own.

  • Write a guide a week to lift impressions

Why not: Impressions are not the measure, and a site that publishes to look busy ends up with pages Google declines. One guide a month from a real search, which is what the EICR guide published today is.

  • Judge any page on the numbers so far

Why not: Nothing is judged before day 90 with 100 impressions on it. The guide that reached 7.7 did so on six impressions; the one at 18.7 earned two clicks from 85. Neither is a result yet. The first honest read is the day-90 one, in early December.

What was done instead

One guide from measured demand, and the index watched

The demand table this site publishes puts the electrical installation condition report at 22,200 searches a month. No guide answered it, so one was written and published on 6 October, with the three searches inside the word, the first screen of the winning page and the codes in the landlord's words. It is the one piece of content added in the first 38 days, and it was chosen from the Planner rather than from the site's own thin query list, because three clicks is not a query list.

The index was checked by URL inspection on 6 October: 26 of 28 pages indexed, the two unknown being the pages published that morning. Nothing was resubmitted in bulk; the two are requested one at a time once Google has had a week to find them on its own.

How to read this page

  • Every figure is from this site's Search Console, 4 September to 3 October 2026, and the URL inspection sweep of 6 October.
  • The refusals are the point. A month in which twenty pages are left alone and one is written is a good month.
  • The day-90 read is published here in early December, whatever it says.
