Sub-niche service

SEO for commercial electricians: fewer searches, bigger jobs, a different buyer

SEO for commercial electricians is monthly work from £399 a month, 3-month minimum, one contractor per town, aimed at the searches a facilities manager, a landlord or a business owner makes: fixed wire testing, emergency lighting, three-phase, fire alarms, PAT, LED upgrades. There are far fewer of them than domestic searches and each one is worth many times more. They are won on the organic results and on a credentials page, not on the map pack, and this service is built the other way round from domestic SEO because of it.

Sound familiar?

Why commercial contractors come to us

Most commercial electricians we audit have the work, the accreditations and the references, and a website that shows none of it. The gap is not the trade. It is the evidence.

  • You hold NICEIC Approved Contractor, CHAS and SafeContractor, and none of them are anywhere on your website.
  • The domestic call-outs keep coming, and the fixed wire testing contracts go to a firm with a worse van and a better credentials page.
  • A facilities manager found you, liked the look of you, and asked for something to put in the tender file. You sent a PDF from 2021.
  • Your site says 'commercial and domestic', which to a procurement team reads as domestic.
  • You have done schools, care homes and a distribution centre, and the only evidence on the site is a stock photo of a hard hat.

What is different

Domestic and commercial, side by side

This is the section that justifies a separate page. If the two columns were the same, the general electrician service would do and this page would not exist.

The searches commercial electricians actually get

Eight searches, and what each one wants to find

  • commercial electrician [town]

The general search, made by someone who needs a contractor rather than a tradesman. Won by a page that names the sectors you work in and the accreditations you hold.

  • commercial EICR and fixed wire testing

Landlords, managing agents and facilities teams with a certificate running out. Usually five-yearly, usually procured in a hurry, often for several buildings at once.

  • emergency lighting testing

Annual testing to BS 5266, plus the monthly flick tests the building manager should be doing. A page that explains both gets the annual contract.

  • fire alarm installation and servicing

Design, installation and servicing to BS 5839. Searched by the same buyer as emergency lighting; one page can hold both if it is honest about which you do.

  • three-phase installation and distribution boards

New units, machinery, kitchens, workshops. Searched with the building type: three-phase supply for a workshop, distribution board for a restaurant.

  • PAT testing [town]

Small value, high volume, and the door through which many commercial clients arrive. A price on the page wins it.

  • LED lighting upgrade for offices and warehouses

A cost-saving job, searched by owners who have seen the electricity bill. The page should talk in payback, not lumens.

  • data cabling and containment

Cat6, containment, office fit-outs. Often searched by the shop fitter or the IT company rather than the end client.

How we help

The six pieces, and why the credentials page comes first

The credentials page
One page that carries every accreditation you hold, with the certificate numbers where they can be published, your insurance level, your health and safety approach and the sectors you have worked in. This is the page a facilities manager prints for the file, and it is the page most commercial electrician sites do not have.
A page per service, written for the buyer
Fixed wire testing, emergency lighting, fire alarms, three-phase, PAT, LED upgrades, data cabling: each on its own page, in the buyer's words, with what is involved, how long it takes, what disruption to expect and what it depends on. Not a list of services on one page.
Sector pages where you have the evidence
Schools, care homes, warehouses, retail, hospitality, landlords: only the sectors you have actually worked in, with the kind of job described honestly. A sector page without evidence behind it is a page we will not write.
The profile, set for commercial
Electrical installation service or electrician as the primary category, the commercial services ticked, hours that say you answer during the working day, and photos of plant rooms and boards rather than a domestic consumer unit.
Google Ads for the planned searches
Where the audit shows it pays, search-only ads on the certificate searches: fixed wire testing, emergency lighting, EICR commercial. Few clicks, high value, tight match types, ad spend on your own card.
Mentions where procurement looks
The NICEIC Approved Contractor entry, CHAS, SafeContractor and Constructionline listings, trade association pages, and the local business directories a facilities team uses. Same name, address and phone on every one.

Pricing

The same tiers, from £399 a month, plus ads where they pay

Commercial work does not carry a commercial price. Local, Growth and Multi-area are on the pricing page; a firm with a commercial arm that needs its own pages usually fits Growth, and a firm with two bases fits Multi-area. Google Ads management is quoted with the tier and the spend goes to Google on your card. One contractor per town applies here as everywhere else, and the reply to the quote form says whether your town is free.

Questions commercial electricians ask us

We do both commercial and domestic. Do we need two websites?

No. One site, with the commercial work given its own section: a credentials page, a page per commercial service, sector pages where you have the evidence. The domestic pages sit alongside. What you should not do is put both on one page under 'commercial and domestic', because the commercial buyer reads that as domestic and the domestic buyer does not care.

Does the map pack matter for commercial work?

Less than for domestic, and more than nothing. A facilities manager searching 'commercial electrician Stockport' sees the map first, so the profile has to be right. The decision, though, is made on the organic result and the credentials page, which is why this service leads with those.

Is Google Ads a better use of the money than SEO here?

Sometimes, at the start. Commercial searches are few and worth a lot, so ads on the certificate searches can pay from month one while the pages are built. The audit says whether that applies to your area, and the ad spend goes to Google on your own card either way.

Can you publish our accreditation certificate numbers?

Where the scheme allows it, and a buyer can check them, yes. NICEIC has a public register; so do CHAS and Constructionline. Publishing the number turns a logo into a checkable fact, which is what procurement wants.

We get most work from tenders and word of mouth. Why bother?

Because the tender panel searches your name and reads what comes back, and word of mouth ends with the same search. The site that shows the credentials, the sectors and the people is the one that survives that check. The searches are a bonus on top.
