The electrician's year: what people search for each season, and what to publish when
EV chargers in spring, outdoor sockets and lighting in summer, heating and rewires in autumn, emergencies in winter.

Search for electrical work is not flat across the year. EV charger enquiries climb from February, outdoor sockets and garden lighting peak in early summer, consumer units and rewires pick up when the clocks go back, and the emergency call-out searches spike in the cold, wet weeks of winter. A page published the month its search peaks wins nothing until the next year. This is the calendar we plan an electrician's pages and profile posts around.
The year, quarter by quarter
| When | What people search | What should be live by then |
|---|---|---|
| January to March | EV charger installation, home office sockets, consumer unit upgrades after the January bills | The EV charger page with the grant position, the consumer unit page, profile posts on both |
| April to June | Outdoor sockets, garden lighting, hot tub supplies, extractor fans, landlord EICRs before summer lets | An outdoor electrics page, the EICR page for landlords, photographs from real gardens |
| July to September | Extensions and kitchen rewires while the house is empty, EICRs for student lets, loft conversions | The rewire page with what moves the price, the EICR page refreshed, a guide on rewiring a kitchen |
| October to December | Heating controls, storage heaters, emergency electrician, fault finding when the lights trip in the rain | The emergency page with honest hours, the fault-finding page, the profile's emergency attribute set |
Why a month early is the rule
Google takes weeks to index a new page and longer to trust it, and a profile post has a shelf life of a week. So the EV charger page goes live in January for the March peak, the outdoor page in March for June, the rewire page in June for the summer, and the emergency page is checked in September before the first storm. Publishing on the day the search peaks is publishing for next year.
What the profile does each season
- A post a month on the season's job, with a photograph from a real one and the town named.
- The services list updated: EV chargers added in winter, outdoor electrics in spring, emergency call-outs confirmed with honest hours in autumn.
- Special hours set for the bank holidays and the Christmas fortnight, when the emergency searches are highest and half the profiles say closed.
- The review ask tuned to the season: after an EV charger, ask them to mention the make; after a rewire, the road.
The pages that never go out of season
Emergency electrician, consumer unit, EICR and fault finding are searched all year and simply spike. They are the core of an electrician's site and should exist before any seasonal page. The seasonal pages are the additions that catch the peak: EV chargers, outdoor electrics, heating controls, the kitchen rewire guide.
How to use this without a marketing department
- Pick the two seasons that matter most to your work and ignore the rest this year.
- For each, one page and three profile posts, written a month ahead.
- Photographs from the jobs as they happen, saved with the town in the file name, so next year's posts are already half done.
- Read Search Console in the month after the peak: which searches came, which page they landed on, and what to write next year.
The calendar is not about doing more. It is about doing the same six things at the right time of year, so the page exists when the search does.
Questions on this topic
Does the season matter for a small one-person business?
More, not less. A sole trader cannot chase every job type at once; picking the two seasons that suit the work you want and being ready for them is how a small business beats a bigger one on the map.
Do the EV charger searches really start in February?
In most of the UK, yes: the new-year car deliveries and the lighter evenings bring them forward, and they climb until April. Search Console for your own area will show you the exact curve after the first year.
Should I run ads in the peaks?
For the emergency searches in winter, sometimes, if the map is not yours yet. For the planned jobs, the pages and the profile do it for free, and the money is better spent on photographs and reviews.
